RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS-SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS-

...LATE SEASON STORM TO IMPACT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK...

A COLD STORM ORIGINATING IN THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL MOVE DOWN THE
COAST TODAY AND THEN TRACK ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TUESDAY NIGHT
THROUGH THURSDAY. THIS STORM WILL BRING RAIN AND MOUNTAIN
SNOW...STRONG WINDS AND UNSEASONABLY COLD WEATHER WEDNESDAY AND
THURSDAY. THUNDERSTORMS WITH SMALL HAIL ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

CLOUDS WILL THICKEN AHEAD OF THE STORM ON TUESDAY. DENSE FOG WILL
START TO BECOME A FACTOR OVER THE MOUNTAINS. THE CHANCES FOR LIGHT
RAIN WILL INCREASE THROUGH THE DAY AND LIGHT RAIN OR DRIZZLE WILL
BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE LIKELY TOWARD EVENING. STRONG WINDS
WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH IN THE MOUNTAINS
AND DESERTS IN THE AFTERNOON.

ON TUESDAY NIGHT A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL BRING A SHARPLY COLDER
AIRMASS INTO THE AREA. THIS COLD AIRMASS LINGER THROUGH
THURSDAY...AND TEMPERATURES WILL BE 15 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE.
THE COLD AIR UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL BRING A THREAT FOR SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE FROM ONE-HALF TO ONE INCH WEST OF THE
MOUNTAINS WITH ONE TO TWO INCHES ON THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES.
ABOUT ONE-QUARTER INCH WILL FALL OVER THE UPPER DESERTS...WITH LESS
THAN A QUARTER INCH IN THE LOWER DESERTS.

THIS COLD STORM WILL LOWER SNOW LEVELS DOWN TO 4000 FEET WEDNESDAY.
SEVERAL INCHES OF HEAVY WET SNOW ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 5000 FEET...WITH
AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES ABOVE 6000 FEET.

THE STORM SYSTEM WILL EXIT THE REGION THURSDAY NIGHT WITH DRY...MILD
WEATHER FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
