That was a very kind act to leave a raft. It was used on the day I was there but it disappeared according to a report I received a week later. Others have left rafts and floats but the very nature of this wild place makes it difficult to maintain them. Last Thursday when I was there, there was only a single float and that meant getting wet. But the good news is you can cross. Especially if you are close to the rope. I usually just cross and don't worry about the cold. Enjoy your special day, but bring a new float if you want to cross any other way. There is more of a sand bar about 40-60 feet down stream. Keep you feet slightly farther apart to keep your balance against the creek flow and stay close to the rope. The hope of reaching the warmth of the Crab Cooker will help you to endure the cold.
