A couple of things: When congress, in their great wisdom, started the fee demonstration program they put in a stipulation that the funds cannot be used for staffing more personell such as a law enforcement ranger. The funds generated from the Adventure Pass program can only be spent on improvements of facilities and so forth. So the forest service is tight in this spot. Our current president does not favor funding more law enforcement rangers, so that probably wont happen anytime too.
I would hate to think the government had someone up at the top searching through my bag, not only is it unconstitutional, but damn, thats invasive. I would fight that tooth and nail.
Perhaps we could get people writing letters to the forest services regional office, and the local to get then to provide more funds for law enforcement on the forest. They would have to take money away from some where else, but I could think of some things I would prefer to see less funded, like corporate welfare to the logging companies and building new roads.
