Kingnate, If everyone was truly allowed to do exactly what they wanted according to their vast array of individual preferences then a pervasive chaos would be very prevelant in our society as a whole. Regarding DCHS, what if someones expression of their freedom was turning these special springs into an area were grafitti was allowed to proliferate freely. What if some individuals decides their preference is to physically accost anyone spending time there without clothes. What if their preference is that they feel the area around the springs has too many trees for their interest so they proceed with their " right " of freedom to cut down any trees they wish. What if someones idea of their freedom would be to bring their weapon to DCHS and spend the day going around shooting at things, maybe people too if thats their whim. I could go on and on but there are clearly rules created to preserve hopefully some semblence of order and help mitigate various peoples " freedoms " from impinging on one another. The illegal OHV riding that has proliferated greatly in the area around DCHS has caused damage to the natural landscape vastly beyond anything in comparison to the damage other activities of visitors to this area have inflicted. First off their activity is clearly illegal, but secondly I have no doubt that there are greatly more people that dislike this illegal riding than those few who would offer up support for it. Those of you who think that its ok for loud powerful machines to run destructively all over the hillsides around the beautiful areas near and at DCHS are welcome to call up the USFS to see if you can get a waiver for this expression of freedom. Good luck. PS, I've been to Burning Man many times and it is an amazing place of freedom but even there many rules are needed to preserve a peaceful atmosphere.
