I know exactly where you are talking about. If you go uphill @ 10 yards from where it gets difficult you will find an alternate trail up there. That is where a guy who lives in Arrowhead used to store his tools.
I will be in the area in the near future and will evaluate the situation. Otherwise, you may try the family trail again.
Several years ago, after a dead head consert the parking lot was over flowing with several hippy type families. At least 20-30 cars and campers stayed for a week. That was the most I saw there.
With the advent of computers favorite places such as DCHS are forever changed.
