Hello Jobe,
I went straight on the trail over Bradford Ridge, I have done the Family canyon trail before. The trail over the ridge is probably just in poor shape from all the use it has seen recently. I have never seen so many vehicles parked at the Bradford Ridge trail head before. There were a couple of out of state vehicles parked there on Tuesday, one from Colorado, another from Utah just to name a few.
The quartz type of rock and subsequent gravel that breaks off is making it very difficult to walk on the narrow ledge between the barbed wire fence and the actual trail on top of the ridge. To insure you don't slide off the narrow trail you need to get low to the ground and keep a hand on the uphill side of the trail. I have slipped on previous trips on some of the trails to and from the springs and I have gotten some nice cuts and scratches on my legs and derriere. Even the steeper parts of the trail along the ridge are getting very sandy and difficult to walk up due to the lack of traction.
