I believe that like many out there, I agree with some of what has been posted under this subject but not with everything.
I agree with Wizard that in all my visits I have not seen and reason that we should consider paid security patrols. However I do feel that it is necesary to protect the public access to the springs so that at no time the authority in power feels that they have the right to destroy the pools, change the clothing optional custom or ban their use altogether. It is good to see people like Katerina that remain vigilant against such potential treats. As Jona pointed out alot can be gained by working with our goverment agencies even when we do not agree with all the policies they have in place. These agencies will be much more willing to cooperate with groups that are interested in working with them to conserve the enviroment, keeping the place clean and safe and enjoyable to people of all ages. They will not be so willing to work with organizations that try to get the agencies to take sides on personal agendas, never mind how valid their arguments may be. I am a member of such a group that works with State Parks to preserve a particular clothing optional beach. The benefit of this kind of oraganization is three fold. First, it helps eduacate the users of the appropiate ettiquete of what is and is not acceptable behavior. Second, it allows us to have a recognized voice and organization to work with these agencies. Third, it allows us to form a network of supportors that can be notified, and will show up at a official meeting if any agency is considering any serious adverse policy change. However as Jona mentioned, this kind of group must to be directed by a board. The Hot Springs has a group of regular volunteers that help keep the place clean by vacumming pools, carting out bags of trash etc. It may be time that an official group of Friends of the DC Hot Springs be established for the purposes just mentioned. Such a group could work with national organizations like The Naturist Society that also is interested in preserving public lands like DCHS. However, for such a group to be taken seriously we must concentrate on our common goals and set our differences aside, or keep them to other forums. I now a great place to meet and discuss in person such a posibility, it is called Deep Creek Hot Springs. All we need to do is set a date and time and choose a pool, grass space, beach or rock on which to meet and talk.
Well this is just my opinion.
