Bill, we have found a lot of old unexploded ordinance and remnants of old military equipment in the desert just east of Five Palms Hot Springs, This area was used by General Patton during WW2 as part of his tank training exercises. Another time when we were much younger, we were tent camping off of the Bradshaw Trail in the Chocolate Mountains east of the Salton Sea. Little did we realize we were smack dab in the middle of the aerial bombing range. We were rudely awakened early in the morning when a bomb dropped about 100 feet from our tents! Needless to say, you have never seen anybody pull up stakes so fast! That was the end of that trip!
