I would Love to hear an earth quake story from any body who was at deep creek when the rock and rolling was going on.
Back in '99 shortly after the Big Bear earth quake I was swimming in Deep creek. Just down stream from the Arizona pool when a 4. something shook very violently.
The day before I had been water skiing with my dad. For those who don't know him he is a speed demon. So I'm out on Lake Elsinore skiing most of the day with him when he gets his boat up to 70 mph with me on the ski. A frighting experience I had been in before. He knows it is illegal but don't care. Because he has all the rangers hood winked, because my dad is a very funny guy. He makes those rangers laugh soo hard they look the other way. So I'm out there on this ski going 70 mph when I hit the wake from another boat. The best thing to do is ball up like a cannon ball. Which I did. Still, I had bruises on my back and legs Dad always said "If your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough." I am plenty of both.
So the next day I gotta go to d.c.h.s. to recuperate.
While I was swimming I had my goggles and fins on and I was collecting trash off of the bottom of the creek. When suddenly I heard what sounded like a ski boat coming up deep creek. A big shock for bruised up skier. I instinctively started to look out for another ski boat. Which was not there , of course. As I looked up several people on the shore started standing up and walking around. They asked me if I felt the shacking which I did not. Then a large amount of boulders from the steep hill south of the springs started falling down that hill. These boulders took @ 3-4 minuets before they stopped cascading down the hill. It took at least another 10 minuets before the dust from the hill stopped.
The hill with the falling boulders was the same hill I sent Ron Mercer too to take that picture that is on the Deep Creek Volunteers web site. That is me in the big pool in that picture.
Aint live strange ?
Anybody else got any earth quake stories? :~)
