WHO: Mountaintop Ranger District, San Bernardino National Forest, U.S. Forest Service

WHAT: Work on the Grass Valley Fire Restoration project will commence with hand crews working to reduce hazardous fuels in the footprint of the 2007 Grass Valley Fire. Forest Service personnel will kick off the project by using hand and mechanical tools to thin Forest Service areas on 185 acres of land. The total project is 939 acres and will also include invasive species removal, reforestation and road/trail repair. In future years, when it is safe to do so, crews will look for opportunities to implement the first prescribed fire operations for the area.

WHERE: On National Forest land to the west of Grass Valley and Deer Lodge Park, neighborhoods which are on the northwest side of Lake Arrowhead. Forest Service crews intend to begin in areas behind Edgecliff Dr.

WHEN: Possibly beginning December 10, 2019, starting behind Edgecliff Dr., and continuing throughout the winter, spring and summer, expanding work throughout the 939-acre project footprint.
