Its always been that there is no camping within one mile of Deep Creek. I don't know if there is a differance as related to those having a permit to hike the PCT. Call the Sky Forest Ranger station and they most likely will have the answer for that ( PCT question ) and to confirm the one mile rule. Was the tree they cut down a dead one?
