Aloha Airlines went down just last week, today its ATA Airlines shutting down suddenly this morning. My family and I would have been in Hawaii this week, having left for our scheduled week-long trip on 3-29. My wife unfortunately develped excrutiating pain from a previous herniated disc in her lower back causing us to have to cancel our trip. If we had gone we would have been stuck in Hawaii this coming Saturday. I guess if your gonna get stuck somewhere, it might as well be Hawaii :-) We called ATA just yesterday as they were telling us we could reschedule our plan tickets with them between now and this Nov 13th because my wife had a " medical emergency ". We may have some redress through the Credit Card company or through Priceline which we used to purchase the tickets. Dang, we were planning on using those tickets to go to Hawaii in October. The Airlines in general are all under extreme pressure due to high fuel cost, and consequently the rise in the cost of many other things needed to run an airline. I've read a number of articles previously that discussed that 100+ oil would put airlines into shaky finacial ground. The Aloha and ATA bankruptcies are the first rumblings of this reality. All signs are pointing to a continued, inexorable rise in oil ( fuel ) prices.
