When I was in the Navy ,we were "attacked" by a Syrian gunboat in the Med. The problem was they thought we were in their territorial waters, even though we knew we were in international waters. As they approached our ship, some of our deck crews gave them the finger. Then then prepared to launch their two large torpedoes at us. Fortunately, we have a Greek sailor onboard who spoke their language. He got on the bullhorn and calmed them down. Then they left.
My point is and international incident can occur at a moment's notice. In the recent incident. Allied Naval Signal flags should have been used to avoid any language mixups.
Of course at least one village will be happy to have their idiot return soon;-)
