Wizard, I've been a financial planner ( in an earlier life!) and I strongly encourage you to look carefully at your wife's 401 (k) portfolio as she edges closer to retirement. Obviously I don't know what type of investment mix she has right now, but she should be thinking about going toward a more conservative or moderate asset allocation rather than an aggressive allocation, especially when she nears the 5 years from retirement mark. I've seen too many people lose their nest egg near retirement because they had all their 401 k in aggressive stocks. My wife's brother lost over $1 million just before retirement. He had to sell his home and will have to work until 70 to retire comfortably.
