This may also be referring to the Forest Adventure Pass which, technically, is required if you continue far enough along the road past the ranch. If you park where Wizard does, you're okay. If you go past that, or if you use the Bradford Ridge trail, you need the Forest Adventure Pass. There's been some discussion in the past on this forum as to whether anyone really checks for it in these two places -- although I can assure you they do in other more popular places. The fine is the price of a pass, in other words, if you get caught, you just bought yourself a pass. Passes can be obtained at any Ranger Station as well as other places, $35 for one year.
