As I've stated before many times, my purpose for posting at DUSA is defense of legal OHV opportunities. Quite simply, I was sick and tired of being lied about with little or no defense offered for legal OHV use. So, I offered a defense. I was immediately attacked by Dave van Voorhis of Juniper Flats, for a whole range of nasty goings-on in and around his neighborhood. He accused me of all sorts of things he would have not one shred of evidence for nor knowledge of. He had no idea whatsoever who I am, nor does he today. It has become clear to me that Dave is an anti-OHV extremist, despite his claims to the contrary on DUSA. His goal is to turn legal OHV use into illegal OHV use wherever possible, particularly in his neighborhood. His actions speak far louder than his words.
I fully understand and sympathize with the annoyance of unwanted OHV use nearby one's home, as I sympathize with the annoyance of drunk drivers on our nation's highways. What I advocate is specific regulation of the illegal element, while preserving the right of the public to engage in existing legal and non-annoying OHV activities. Dave has advocated blanket restrictions which affect all OHV users, including the vast majority who choose to recreate well away from any homes or other people. We don't outlaw driving automobiles on highways or parking them in any legal parking area, simply because some people choose to drive while intoxicated or park in illegal areas. We don't outlaw available roads or parking spots simply because some drivers choose to engage in illegal or annoying behavior. We address the behavior and enforce the existing well-targeted and well-written laws to exact punishment and alter the behavior of the person committing the infraction. We don't limit the use of the vehicle simply because someone mis-uses theirs. We prosecute the bad behavior.
When Dave demands a link to his reckless accusations against me, he knows it's not possible any longer. DUSA began a registration process a year ago, and all existing threads were deleted. I have saved them in a safe place, just in case it's necessary for me to retrieve them for some unknown reason, but would require lots of research to pull up the particular threads in question. Since I'm a busy person, I'll decline to do the research for Dave's purpose here. For the record, he has accused me of supporting illegal riding in his neighborhood, and alleged that I was likely one of the perpetrators. He accused me of firebombing his friend's house near Randsburg, buring a car outside his property, of being a paid hitman for District 37 coming to DUSA to torture him specifically, of being a paid lobbyist for CORVA, of being a horrible guy for exposing his true identity at DUSA (when he was actually the first one who started the procedure), of being the likely OHV rider who he alleged caused a wildfire in the Pinnacles area a few years ago (claiming that "OHV's were heard in the area just before the fire broke out". He claimed that I was likely the one riding an OHV which was used as a weapon against one of his neighbors a few months ago. He claimed that I was a friend of Mike Castro, who evidently owns the Bowen Ranch. None of these things have a shred of truth to them, yet he posted them just as if they were facts. Why would he do that? He also claimed that he turned my name in to federal authorities as a possible suspect in some illegal activity in or around Juniper Flats. All this because I'm just another poster at DUSA? I've seen it posted here that Dave is supposedly a very level-headed spokesman for the rights of Juniper Flats property owners (paraphrased, of course). Well, that's most assuredly not the Dave van Voorhis we see at DUSA. He is quite the reckless rumor-monger and accusationist. He has embarked on a reckless crusade to damage my personal reputation and belittle OHV use to a small splinter group of nutballs who intentionally endanger their childrens' lives.
Dave seems to make a few enemies wherever he goes. I'm certainly not the first, and likely won't be the last. Some OHV supporters at DUSA who tried for some time to reach some consensus with Dave have since thrown up their hands in disgust and futility. I gave up quite some time ago, after several attempts to bury the hatchet. He would have none of it, and evidently chose me as a lifelong enemy right from the beginning. The accusations and name calling persist, with Dave calling me a "punk" just a few days ago.
I understand that you people are mostly trying to preserve peace and quiet in your neighborhood. I wish you luck in that pursuit. I will not be visiting, so you don't have to worry about noise from my vehicles in Juniper Flats. I don't make a living at this, I'm merely at DUSA to defend the vast majority of good people who participate with their families in legal OHV use from the lies perpetrated by people who clandestinely or openly work to put an end to the activity. I despise people who say one thing, then do just the opposite. In a nutshell, that's my problem with Dave.
Cheers!
Dan
