Hi Dan,
Thank you for your response and I am sure you will find agreement in this forum on many points of your argument.
Dave's issue with you is likely reflected in your statement:
"He seeks to freely disseminate lies and false claims about OHV users, and the activity, and I seek to point out where he is wrong."
As I recall, you initiated a thread entitled "Sandman and His Neighborhood" in which you accused him of deviousness and lies and stated that his neighbors shared your low opinion of him. As I recall, you characterized our Juniper Flats neighborhood as a warren of meth labs and thieves.
It is understandable that Dave would respond to those charges by issuing you a challenge to provide supporting information for your attacks on his character. It has been our experience that he is friendly, easy-going, intelligent, well-spoken, open and honest and has put a lot of thought into addressing the problem of OHV abuse (as you obviously have also).
You asked the rationale behind the new SB County legislation. Private property signs were being stolen and vandalized making it impossible to prosecute trespassers. Many riders were not aware of breaking the law as they have been riding unchallenged for years. The new law makes it their responsibility to know where they are riding. On BLM public lands in Arrastre Canyon/Juniper Flsts, signs advising that riding is restricted to signed open routes on public lands are removed almost immediately. Those concerned about loss of riding opportunity should be aware that this could seen as rationale for closure.
Except for the personality issues, I liked what you wrote. I think the DUSA forum has great potential and I would be tempted to post if you could establish a climate of mutual respect.
