I happened to be scavanging the other day and found myself at the "new wilderness cafe". Wow, what a meal it was. The new location is very wild in nature and meals are by invite only. The proprietor is the same however and his presence up here in Juniper Flats has been very welcome. A good neighbor he is.
As far as feeding the wild critters goes, local residents provide guzzlers for wildlife. After the Willow fire, a couple of residents started providing supplemental feed for the devastated quail population. Nowdays, the local population of quail has been restored to it's former abundance and private property remains a sancturary. My place is like a dizney movie sometimes with birds and 4 legged critters bounding around. Dependence upon man is not good for wild critters, especialy bears, which become imprinted for life to their detriment. Things like providing seed for birds or planting flower bearing natives like desert willow to attract hummingbirds is perfectly ok. If water is provided in the desert, the wildlife will find it and flourish. It helps them along in a very harsh neighborhood.
