US Forest Service waives fees on Veterans Day
Date: Nov 1, 2010
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., November 1, 2010— In honor of America’s Veterans and Armed Services personnel, Thursday, November 11, will be a “Fee Free Day” on the national forests in Southern California. The National Forest Adventure Pass will not be required for visitors recreating in the San Bernardino, Angeles, Cleveland and Los Padres National Forests.
The Forest Service is working to ensure as many visitors as possible have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors and take advantage of the many recreational activities America’s national forests and grasslands have to offer.
“By waiving fees, the Forest Service hopes everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonder and rejuvenation of recreation on national forests and grasslands, while also honoring our country’s veterans,” said Southern California Recreation Fee Program Manager Al Colby.
The Veterans Day Free Day is observed each year on November 11, regardless of the day of the week. In addition to Veterans Day, the Southern California national forests also waive fees on National Trails Day in June and National Public Lands Day in September.
Visitors who inadvertently use a Daily Adventure Pass on a free day may have it replaced free-of-charge at any Forest Service office in southern California. Though the Adventure Pass fee will be waived, other fees still apply, such as those in campgrounds, reservation and group sites.
