Volunteers needed for Lytle Creek Watershed Restoration on National Public Lands Day

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., September 13, 2010 – The US Forest Service is seeking volunteers to help restore the Lytle Creek watershed by participating in various activities planned on September 25, National Public Lands Day.
The Lytle Creek watershed is extremely important, providing drinking water to many communities and recreational opportunities close to home. Volunteers are encouraged to come to Lytle Creek and lend a helping hand to help take care of this natural resource.
On September 25, 2010, more than 170,000 Americans are expected to volunteer to help restore the beauty and vitality of our public lands as part of the 17th annual National Public Lands Day. National Public Lands Day is an event that brings together thousands of volunteers from coast to coast to improve and restore the lands and facilities that Americans use for recreation, education, and just plain enjoyment. It is coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation in partnership with nine federal land management agencies. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and Northrop Grumman sponsor National Public Lands Day. Last year over 150,000 volunteers participated at sites in all 50 states.
WHEN: September 25, 2010 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
WHO: US Forest Service working in conjunction with: San Gorgonio Wilderness Association, Lytle Creek Volunteer Association, Fisheries Resource Volunteer Corps, Inland Empire Miners and Prospectors, Timberland, California Steel Industries, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles and Los Osos High School.
WHERE TO MEET: Lytle Creek Ranger Station, 1209 Lytle Creek Rd., Lytle Creek, CA 92358
WHAT TO BRING: water, snacks, sack lunch, sun protection/sunscreen, hat, shoes that you can wear in the water, gloves. Temperatures will be variable.
PROJECTS: Creek clean-up, including rock dam removal and trash pick-up.
