Saw Tooth Complex and Miller

I went up to Big Bear today, going by way of HWY 18 from Lucerne Valley. Up at the point just before you go over the top and down to Baldwin Lake, you could get a birds eye view of these two growing fires. The main active areas are south, east, and north east of the Onyx Summit area of HWY 38, which is about 10 miles south east of the town of Big Bear. Alot of highly vegetated hillsides, and extremelly dry fuels between the fire and Onyx summit. The Miller fire, which I believe started today, is in basically a southerly direction from Baldwin lake, and I think in the hills north of I-10. I wouldn't be supprised if these two fires merge. Could see monstrous plumes going up and the Saw Tooth Complex fire appears to be working its way pretty quick to the west, going up the ridges to higher terrain. I'm sure the residents around the east end of Big Bear, and around Baldwin Lake are pretty darn nervous tonight. I also saw on the weather report that a monsoon flow is supposed to begin around friday, changing the current prevailing winds which have been from the southwest, to the southeast, pushing this fire more in the direction of Big Bear. Also they are predicting more dry thunderstorms with lightning, which is also believed to be the cause of the Saw Tooth Complex fires. You gotta feel for those firefighters tackling this monster, in 100 plus heat. Hope they get a handle on it, thats such beautiful country up there.
