Lake moratorium no reason to panic

After Lake Arrowhead has served as the local source of domestic water supply for the past 82 years, the decision by the state Water Resources Control Board on lake use suddenly has launched the community of Arrowhead Woods into a new age of sustainable water resources management, which will include the water that goes into, out of and is stored in Lake Arrowhead.

There are two significant ruilings in the decision. The first says that a pre-1914 right exists authorizing the diversion of water for recreational purposes, and its permanent storage in the lake to an elevation no higher than 5,106.7 feet.

The dam, which creates the diversion, as well as the spillway, which controls the overflow elevation at 5,106.7 feet, both are owned by the Arrowhead Lake Association on behalf of all owners of property in Arrowhead Woods.....

Ralph Wagner is a consulting engineer in Lake Arrowhead. Wagner is the founder and former president of the Arrowhead Lake Association and now sits on the group's Lake Stabilization Committee. Wagner is also the founder and first president of the Lake Arrowhead Community Services District......
