Forest fire restrictions issued

Summertime is officially here, and with it comes an order to curtail many activities that could cause a wildfire to get loose in the San Bernardino National Forest.
As hundreds of blazes induced by lightning strikes continue to burn in the Bay Area and Central Valley, San Bernardino National Forest officials have imposed their annual campfire and target-shooting restrictions.
"This is the time when things start to dry out a bit," said forest spokeswoman Valerie Baca. "We do have more grasses (due to winter rains) this year and finer fuels, and with heavy fire activity up north, we're just being precautionary down south."
Forest Supervisor Jean Wade Evans announced Tuesday that campfires will only be allowed in fire rings at developed campground and picnic sites with public road access. .....
