Off-road vehicle laws topic of conference
Officials will hold a conference on Saturday to inform residents about off-road vehicle laws and how to protect the desert.
More than 25 organizations will sponsor the conference at the Joshua Tree Community Center, 6171 Sunburst Road.
Geologist Howard Wilshire, the keynote speaker, will discuss the impacts of off-road vehicles on private property as well as on public and tribal land.
Wilshire will also discuss the effects the vehicles have on plants and animals, potential dangers to children, and how to be a responsible rider.
There will also be a question-and-answer session and a presentation by representatives of government agencies. They will discuss what is being done to address problems related to off-road vehicles.
