We are in Northern California vacationing in the Redding area near our property. Went to check out some very beautiful falls, which are a half mile west of the bridge over the Pit River, off of Fender's Ferry Rd. This bridge crosses the river just above where it enters Lake Shasta. The falls are named Potem Falls. There is a great little trail that drops down a steep rocky hillside into a lush green streambed. Our property is about 10 miles off to the southwest of where these falls are, as the crow flies :-) My brother who lives about a mile and a half from our property has found arrowheads in various areas while working his property. He owns a couple thousand acres. I'll bet the Indians found Potem Falls to be a very special place. I put seven photos taken on our hike yesterday to the falls at the Wizard's pictures link below. They are the last three photos on page 41, and four on page 42. To get to these falls you drive east out of Redding on HWY 299 about 30 miles to the community of Round Mountain, then just a mile or so past the Round Mountain post office you will find Fender's Ferry Rd ( there is a two story bright yellow house on the left at the corner ). You then go down Fender's Ferry Rd three and a half miles on pavement, then the road turns to dirt, and it is in excellent condition the five and three tenths miles to the bridge at the Pit River. Then you crosss the bridge and go another six tenths of a mile to pullout on the left with a little sign that says " Potem Falls Trailhead ". The trail down to the falls takes under 10 minutes of hiking and the incline is real easy. If your ever in the area its well worth the time to check out :-)
