I received an e-mail from Brad Burns today. He indicated that, as of 11-6, this car was not reported stolen. Brad has other commitments until late November. He said he would be passing the information on to other " patrolmen " that may retreive the vehicle before he would get an opportunity to check it out. He asked if I could give GPS coordinates for the vehicle, but I don't own one of these devices, so I gave him more detailed road directions on where the car is. I also sent him an additional photo, showing the Bradford Ridge trail in the background, where it connects to the PCT. Maybe they will be able to get it out of there. An interesting side note to the issue of a vehicle not being reported stolen. This summer I spotted a vehicle out east of Granite Mtns, that was about a quarter mile off the only dirt rd out there. After it had been there for about a week, I called it in to the local police. They said it was not reported stolen, and didn't send anybody to check on it. I thought that was odd, being the middle of summer, what if it had been a hiker, taken by heat exhaustion, or possibly, bitten by a rattlesnake. After I got back from a vacation, I found the car was still sitting there, a month later. My neighbor is a Highway Patrolmen, and he said he would check it out for me, so I took him out to show him where it was. He called it in and it turned out that a couple of people where showing on the records, the one that reported it not stolen, and other persons who said that the first people where hiding the car from them, stashing it in the desert, as part of some family dispute. Well, about an hour after I showed my neighbor the vehicle, he got the owners to come out to retreive it, while he waited for them in his patrol car. Nice to get something done once in a while, with these people dumping cars, and loads of illegal trash dumping too!
