There is an old Jeep road that goes out along a ridge, just above where I think is the area you are talking about. I used to camp out that way many years ago. In the summer of 2004 I spotted a car at the end of that old road. From that point you can see the spot on the Bowen Ranch trail where the fork is, and, it is about directly across from the Bradford Ridge trail. This car sat there for about a month, then, I finally hiked over to it to see what was going on. It appeared that some fool took a two wheel drive, low clearance two door down that jeep trail and got it stuck, and abandoned it. I called the Foresty with my cell phone and gave them the license number and location. A week later I could see that the car had been dragged out of there, back down route 3. Unfortunely they must of hit the oil pan on a rock since there was a little line of oil going up the road for a good ways. I told the forestry about it, since I was concerned that someone might come along and think it might be fun to just roll that car down the mountain. Sounds like this car you speak of might be a similiar situation, if so, a shame, because how are they going to get it out of there now? Next time I'm down that way I'll take a look and see if I can even hike over to it. If its not too far from the end of that road, maybe the USFS can get it out, but it sounds from you description, like its down the hill a ways. If I find it, I'll try and get some ID from the vehicle, and report it to the USFS.
