There was another interesting article in today's SB Sun just short scroll down from the Lake Arrowhead water article. This one ,"Pilfering the Past", concerned large-scale thefts of paleo artifacts in the Rainbow Basin, a BLM administered area North of Barstow.
"The problem is quite severe, but we don't have enough rangers to patrol the area" according to Ken Shulte, Barstow BLM Field Office Biologist.
The local ranger shortage the last few years is only part of the problem. The other problem is the redirection of most ranger patrols to the OHV open areas.
With Chief Ranger Nelson's pending departure on track, current Barstow Field Manager Roxie Trost will have the opportunity to hopefully return her office's law enforcement program back to a more balanced one.
