Rock Springs Road repairs given green light to start
State and federal agencies have given San Bernardino County the green light to move ahead with a $900,000 project to reconstruct Rock Springs Road between Apple Valley and Hesperia.
The road was washed out during heavy downstream flow in January in the wake of continuous rainfall.
Bill Postmus, the county's 1st district supervisor, said environmental permits have been granted for repair work by the California Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highways Administration.
The other agencies - the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the California Regional Quality Control Board, and the California Department of Fish and Game - also approved the startup of work.
The deadline for project bids is July 12, Postmus said, and construction is expected to begin in late July. Work should be finished in September.
Rock Springs Road, a major link between Apple Valley and Hesperia, is used by about 11,000 vehicles daily.
