It was a wonderful day on Saturday with warm temps and light breezes. Ron, Carlos and I met down at DCHS for our monthly meeting. Since there were just us three members we really didn't have a formal meeting. We did discuss various DCHS issues and checked out a recent article, written by Ron, done about DCHS in N Magazine, which is published by The Naturist Society. He did a great job on it and there are a number of color photos within the article as well. We spent quite a bit of time chatting in the sun on DCHS Del Mar, the big new sand bar, its fantastic! Lots of trees are starting to sprout leaves and quite a few of the Cottonwood Trees planted by the tree man are doing very good, with lots of leaves. Also the tree man has planted a couple of fruit trees, looks like one apple tree and the other may be a pear tree. In the early afternoon Ron, Carlos and I got a couple of hand saws out and cleared out a number of dead trees near the shore, not too far from the Arizona Pool. That area is looking much better now. We left the trunk of one large tree since it looked like it would offer a good sitting place for folks in its current position. Deep Creek is still running pretty high, maybe 6 inches below the Serenity Pool level. The depth of the crossing in front of the Crab Cooker is still about chest deep so practically everyone was using a raft and rope setup that has been left down there for some time now. Later in the day two men came over to talk with us while we were cleaning up the dead trees and one of them was a member we had not met before, Victor. He oversees a scout troop and may bring them down at the time of our next meeting to help us do clean up of a large area of driftwood that is under a grove of trees just downstream from the Crab Cooker. Currently it is a great time to send the driftwood downstream while the creek is still flowing well, since it represents an abundant fuel supply for summertime campfires around DCHS. This year there will be lots of taller bushes and grasses because of all of the rain and campfires at the springs will present more of a fire threat. The Arizona Pool is still under the flow of Deep Creek so we will have to wait and see what its condition is once the creek level goes down. This pool tends to develop leaks after big floods so some work may have to be done to get it to hold water again. The Bowen Ranch road is certainly not in great shape but is definitly passable by two wheel drive vehicles at this time. We had a fine day down at DCHS, and a very full moon for the drive home :-)
