Having just returned from an epic road trip into the wild lands of Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Western New Mexico, I witnessed some of the most breathtaking lands that BLM administers. The approach to multiple use in other regions is more balanced to include many different user groups. The Mojave Desert of California is unique with it's multiple areas of public lands set aside exclusivly for open OHV play activity.

The Juniper sub region that contains Juniper Flats is a mix of public and private lands. OHV activity is having a devastating effect on the private lands in the area. Witness the hillsides along Bowen Ranch Road as you drive into the area and the story tells itself. Open defiance of posted private property is blatently scarred into the landscape by motorcycle riders out for thier own personal adrenaline rush. This isn't the old days when flying birdshot discouraged tresspassing. The ONLY soultion today are tough and enforcable laws with funding. The State OHV commission provides grant funding to law enforcement agencies that apply and the Friends of Juniper Flats support this use of OHV greensticker money. Let the OHV crowd fund the enforcement of their outlaw element. This wouldn't be a huge problem if it wasn't a huge problem.
