Hello Ibcalrr :-) The next project we are looking at is to strengthen the north wall of the Aniversary Pool which was undermined by the floods. The area below the undermined section should be cleaned down to a good base, then with the usage of cement and natural rocks, the voids can be filled in to make the wall sturdy. This project doesn't have to be completed all at once. Various parties could work on it, a little at a time. I think its advisabe that those who do the cement work have some familiarity with building natural looking stone walls. Also the Womb dam was damaged in the floods, losing a handful of large rocks on its top edge. We are also looking to get these rocks replaced to again create a good top edge where people can sit. Large flat stream rocks would do well for this fix. In the case of the Womb, many people use that pool and the newly cemented rocks would have to be protected in some fashion so they could set up. Perhaps one rock at a time could be added, and then when it is solid another one could be placed. Breaking up fire pits is an ongoing task. In one area of the new sand bank, a large fire pit has already fouled a large area of what previously was clean sand. The creek waters are still running pretty good, so any of the wood near the sandy area, under the grove of trees, just downstream from the Crab Cooker, can be thrown in the creek to get it out of the area as a fuel source for illegal fires. These are some of the things you could consider as projects you might get involved with, if you chose too. DCHS has many volunteers who put in thier efforts in various forms, which has kept this special place much cleaner, and in better shape, than it would otherwise be without them. Its a great outdoor environment, that has given many of us countless hours of special experience, and the people who love the Oasis of DCHS will continue to show thier appreciation by taking care of it :-) Thanks for your trip report Ibcalrr. Its fun for me to hear from others about thier experiences at these springs. Happy Soakin!
