Bill, I used to be in the Sierra Singles as well before I met my lovely wife. I knew Dave a bit -he actually autographed a copy of his 1991 book for me.
And right -o about the name of the spring -Shepards. There's also Mollys Tub, Pulky's Pool, and a few others besides Hot Creek and Little Hot Creek in that area. Someday (probably not in our lifetime) that whole area will experience an enormous magmatic eruption -imagine all the new hot springs that will pop up!!!
