MEAD VALLEY - The Riverside County Sheriff's Department began a crackdown over the weekend on off-road vehicle riders, who locals said are illegally driving on private property in unincorporated areas west of Perris.
The Riverside County Off-road Vehicle Enforcement program, or ROVE, kicked off Saturday with officers from the Perris and Lake Elsinore stations taking part, Riverside County sheriff's Lt. Pete Herrera said. No citations were issued over the weekend, Herrera said, but they will be in the future.
Operating off-road vehicles illegally on private property is punishable by a $100 fine for a first offense, $200 for a second offense and $1,000 and up to six months in county jail for a third offense, district attorney spokeswoman Ingrid Wyatt said......................................................
