Desert Survival
1. Hold on to a positive attitude: If you aren't certain you can live, you will die
2. Stay where you are, and stay calm
3. Move only when absolutely necessary and only at night
4. Conserve your sweat, not your water: Rest by day, work on shelter and signals when it's cool
5. Protect your body: Keep your clothes on, stay in the shade
6. Signal by any means when you hear or see others nearby: Reflect the sun with a mirror; wave a brightly colored item, start a fire
7. Eat sparingly: digestion uses water. Avoid salt; it dehydrates you
8. Breathe through your nose to minimize evaporative water loss
9. Parents, be aware: Dress children in bright colors, set boundaries and supervise them closely
10. Use your head, not your sweat; Never ration water
