At the suggestion of Laughing Bear I contacted a man named Tom Egan, who identified the lizard I photographed as a Collared Lizard ( Crotaphytus Collaris ). Now that spring has sprung, I am going to be on the look out for those big black Chuckawallas in the rocks of Granite Mountains. I caught one once. He had wedged his self in a crack between two rocks. I got a hold of his leg, and the only way I got him out was that the rock on one side cracked loose. I think I read once that Chuckawallas, when threatend, purposefully go into tight places and fill thier lungs up with air so that predators can't pull them out. Those lizards are so strong, definitly made for the desert :-)
