Quite frankly, I dont know exactly what provoked this tirade. Jennifer Foster is not on our E mail list and the friends have not sent her anything to my knowlege. Somehow she seems to have the impression that the Friends of Juniper Flats oppose equestrian recreation. We are advocates for responsible public use of our public lands and assist the BLM by monitoring recreational activity, educating the public and promoting responsible recreational use in the Juniper Flats area. And yes, that includes J1299 if it is a legal open route for motorcycle traffic.
Many thanks to Jennifer Foster however in recognizing our amazing power to manipulate the OHV commission. State law requires a percentage of OHV funds to go to restoration and enforcement, as well as recreational enhancement. The BLM and the OHV intrests have invited our group to OHV grant meetings in order to open the process to all interested parties. Perhaps we will sit at the same table soon with Jennifer Foster and friends from her group.
We are also very concerned about recent booby trapping and theft of government fencing in the area. This matter has the attention of Federal law enforcement and I believe increased monitoring is a deterrent to this illegal activity. A visable presence from BLM law enforcement will also help deter illegal target shooting with solid projectile bullets that endanger all user groups. The Friends of Juniper Flats would like to invite Jennifer Foster to join us as a friend, not a foe. We have much common ground to build a foundation upon.
