Bowen History - Continued

DAILY PRESS News Article, Bowen Ranch has active weekend, dated September 2, 1975.

"BOWEN RANCH - The Bowen Ranch and John Ware had a busy Labor Day weekend, according to the sheriff's log.

Things started rolling when Ware called the sheriff's substation at 8 p.m. on Friday to report two persons were trying to remove his signs (signs that advertised the Deep Creek Hot Springs).

On Saturday, Mike Reid called the sheriff's station at 12:10 p.m. to advise that Ware was blocking the dirt road at the fork to Moss Ranch and Bowen Ranch. Ware was reported to have been diverting traffic from the Bowen Ranch to Moss Ranch. But when deputies arrived at the scene Ware was not blocking traffic.

At 6:05 p.m. a man was reported to have been at the ranch with a gun. The report was unfounded.

Later, at 9:15 p.m. REACT reported unknown trouble at the Bowen Ranch.

On Sunday at 7:54 p.m. REACT advised that there was a disturbance at the Bowen Ranch with reference to vehicles blocking the area to the left REACT then cancelled the request.

Mrs. Ware called the sheriff's office on Monday at 9:14 a.m. to advise that the ranch was being shot at. A unit was sent and peace kept according to the log.

That afternoon at 4: Lou Fazzi at the Kemper Campbell Ranch called in and said that Ware and seven other men were shooting at a panel truck The report was unfounded when units arrived at the scene.

Deputy Al Lewis met some trouble when he responded to the shooting call. Lewis was enroute eastbound on Bowen Ranch Road when a jeep driven by Bradley Bunker of Culver City traveling westbound on the winding road, struck the sheriff's car. Minor damage was reported on both vehicles and the CHP was contacted for a report.

At 9:10 that evening REACT reported that Bowen Ranch requested an ambulance for a female with head injuries. A. McCormick ambulance was dispatched. It was a private property incident and as of press time no report was available.
