A hotspringer who was skirting the eastern boundry of the Bowen Ranch property on his way to DCHS, heard semiautomatic gunfire coming from the Bowen Ranch and the sound of bullets impacting near the trail he had just walked across.
This hotspringer had just been dropped off on Bowen Ranch Road less than 50 yards from the northeast corner of the Bowen Ranch property. Right then Mike Castro comes racing up the road in his truck, he slows down looking at each person as he drives past. The two people who had dropped off the hotspringer then proceeded to the Bowen Ranch where it was observed that they were delayed for about 15 minutes before they were able to continue on to park their truck. It was after that when rapid-fire semiautomatic gunfire erupted from the Bowen Ranch. The hotspringer heard the sound of bullets striking the landscape to the east of Bowen Ranch, near where he may have been hiking on his way to the hotsprings.
