This weekend I went on a couple of hikes out into the desert hills. On Saturday I went with my daugter Amber to explore an area I had been wanting to check out for some time. In satelite images I had spotted what looked to be a spring. We ended up finding that spring, and a second one too. We also came across a couple of small waterfalls. At one point our dog sparky came running up with what looked like the skull of a sheeps head. It had big eye sockets, and the teeth of a herbivore. I have heard that there are Big Horn sheep around White Mountain, we were north of that area so it could have been one of these. On Sunday my whole family did another hike in the morning sunshine to the Secret Pool. On the way to this spot, by the outcrops of Magic Crystals my wife found a pitch black small rock, which from the looks of it, may be part of a meteorite. I have been down to the Griffith Observatory before and have seen thier collection of meteorites and this one looks like it is a real good canditate. I haven't seen anything even close to it in my hikes around the area we found it. I'll have to go back and see if I can find more pieces. Anyway I put two photos from our weekend hikes at the Wizard's pictures link below, the last two photos on page 48. We did find numerous flowers blooming already, and from the looks of it there will be loads of them real soon. On our hikes in the desert hills this weekend we found all sorts of bright green lush plants in the little canyons were the water has been plentiful since the big snowfall. I even found miniature ferns in the shady crevices. This is going to be a spring to remember for a long time :-)
