During WW II, there were anti aircraft instalations on the sand spit. Once in a while, they still find something and blow it up over there. I spent 3 years living in Morro Bay and worked in commercial fishing. Great whites frequent the waters there offshore brother Wizard and my friend caught a 12 footer while gill netting halibut just off the beach north of the rock. Another friend caught an old mine once!
