GOLETA, CA…. Los Padres National Forest officials announced today that Nordhoff Ridge Road has been reopened for public use. The popular, four-wheel-drive only road had been closed to vehicles in the wake of winter and spring storms that caused extensive damage. The Forest Service cautioned that the road has not been graded, so visitors are strongly encouraged to drive at a safe speed and watch for large rocks. Nordhoff Ridge offers spectacular views of Ojai, the ocean, and the remote Sespe Wilderness. There are two dispersed public campgrounds along the road that each have a picnic table and a fire pit.
The use of Nordhoff Ridge Road (5N08) requires a permit which is available free of charge at the Ojai Ranger District office, and may be obtained 14 days in advance of travel. For more information on camping, road conditions and trail access on the Ojai Ranger District, call (805) 646-4348. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:30 p.m.
