...ONE MORE VERY HOT DAY IS IN STORE FOR MOST OF SOUTHWESTERN
CALIFORNIA...

THE STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE ACROSS THE WESTERN STATES WHICH
CAUSED TEMPERATURES TO SOAR TO RECORD LEVELS ACROSS MUCH OF
SOUTHWESTERN TODAY WILL HOLD STRONG THROUGH TUESDAY. WEAK OFFSHORE
SURFACE FLOW WILL DELAY SEABREEZES NEAR THE COAST AGAIN TUESDAY...
LIKELY ALLOWING THE HEAT TO SPREAD ACROSS MUCH OF THE COASTAL PLAIN.
HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO GET QUITE AS HIGH NEAR THE
COAST ON TUESDAY...AND A REFRESHING SEABREEZE SHOULD BRING SEVERAL
DEGREES OF COOLING TO THE COASTAL PLAIN IN THE AFTERNOON.

HIGH TEMPERATURES ON TUESDAY WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE
FROM THE UPPER 70S AND 80S NEAR THE COAST...TO THE 90S ACROSS INLAND
SECTIONS OF THE COASTAL PLAIN...INCLUDING DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES...TO THE
MID 90S TO AROUND 105 IN THE VALLEYS.

IN THE MOUNTAINS ON TUESDAY...HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM THE 70S
AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS TO THE 90S AT LOWER ELEVATIONS. HIGH TEMPERATURES
IN THE ANTELOPE VALLEY ON TUESDAY ARE EXPECTED TO RISE WELL INTO THE
90S.

ALTHOUGH WIDESPREAD STRONG WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME...
THE COMBINATION OF A PROLONGED PERIOD OF VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES AND
LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL CREATE A HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER ACROSS
THE REGION THROUGH TUESDAY.

A WEAKENING OF THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE ACROSS THE AREA...ACCOMPANIED
BY AN INCREASING ONSHORE PUSH SHOULD LEAD TO WIDESPREAD COOLING
WEDNESDAY...MOST SIGNIFICANT WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS.

RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY TO FALL TUESDAY INCLUDE

BURBANK..................89 SET IN 1972
CHATSWORTH...............96 SET IN 1992
LOS ANGELES DOWNTOWN.....94 SET IN 1881
LONG BEACH...............90 SET IN 1992
PASADENA.................92 SET IN 1992
UCLA.....................84 SET IN 1992
LANCASTER................90 SET IN 1987
OXNARD...................81 SET IN 1969
SIMI VALLEY..............91 SET IN 1992
SAN LUIS OBISPO..........89 SET IN 1996
SANTA MARIA..............88 SET IN 1996
PASO ROBLES..............96 SET IN 1987
LOS ANGELES AIRPORT......82 SET IN 1991
CUYAMA...................88 SET IN 1990
OJAI.....................91 SET IN 1996
PIERCE COLLEGE...........93 SET IN 1992

IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE TUESDAY...PLEASE TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT
YOURSELF FROM THE HEAT. REDUCE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IF POSSIBLE...AT
LEAST FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH EARLY EVENING. WEAR LOOSE FITTING AND
LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING...DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF
THE SHADE AND AIR CONDITIONING IF AVAILABLE.

...VERY IMPORTANT...
NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS IN ENCLOSED AUTOMOBILES...EVEN IF THE
WINDOWS ARE PARTIALLY OPEN...EVEN FOR A SHORT TIME...SINCE
TEMPERATURES CAN QUICKLY RISE TO LIFE-THREATENING LEVELS.
