Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Get out the sparkling apple cider or champaign (stay awhile). I am sure this will be an interesting year.

DAILY PRESS News Article, dated September 11, 1975, "Ware battle for ranch in two courts at once"

VICTORVILLE - John A. Ware, formerly proprietor of the Bowen Ranch toll gate to Deep Creek Warm Springs, had a busy morning in the judicial system, but not much had come of it by noon.

Ware's civil suit to win back title to the old Bowen ranch house, which his suit claims is actually on the adjoining Moss Ranch, was scheduled for a summary judgment hearing before Superior Court Judge Margaret Morris in San Bernardino.

But Ware's attorney, Paul Steinman, sought and was granted a two-week continuance when he told the judge that Ware was scheduled to appear in a criminal case against him in Victorville Municipal Court.

Ware was evicted from the Bowen Ranch house June 13 for failure to keep up rental payment. The next weekend he went back to the place and was arrested on a charge of trespassing. It was that charge on which a jury trial was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Victorville.

The start of the trial was delayed until Steinman could make it to Victorville after his appearance in San Bernardino. When he arrived, he and Ware told Judge Roland C. Rutledge, sitting in place of Judge William J. Johnstone., that they would try the case without a jury.

The jury was dismissed, and at last report the attorneys were in conference with the judge in chambers.
