Yeah, the E-Bay website suggest the " Launching Reel " could be used for a Kite Reel, but the way it functions is not smooth like a fishing reel. You would be better off doing like I used to do in my youthful days when flying my big Box Kites. I would get my Dad's big deep sea pole with lots of high test fishing line on the reel. I would fly those kites so high I could barely see them, and when I was done, I would just reel in the big flying fish :-)
