Investigators Seek Tips for Suspicious Fires in Deep Creek

Release Date: Nov 13, 2014

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., November 13, 2014 – During the evening of June 29th, 2014, firefighters extinguished seven small fires along the Pacific Crest Trail near Hesperia. Investigators believe the fires were human caused, and are asking for the public’s help with any information on the fires.

Investigators believe the fires started at approximately 8:30 p.m. along the Pacific Crest Trail in the Deep Creek drainage, East of the Mojave River Forks Dam in Hesperia. Three males and one female were observed running down the trail away from the scene of the fire to the parking lot below. These individuals subsequently departed the area in an older red Pontiac sedan from the parking lot of the trailhead shortly after the fires started.

Shortly after the fire, investigators did locate information on an internet website posting, which provided additional information as to how and who may have started the fires, however investigators need additional information. If you have any information about this incident, please contact US Forest Service Special Agents at (909) 382-2901. Even the smallest bit of information may provide the missing piece needed to solve a puzzle.
