Google Books is an interesting project. They don't seem to care about copyright of anything because they have more money and influence than all the publishers combined and believe all knowledge should be fair use. Their approach is we'll scan it, and if you have a problem, sue ... then we'll drown you in court and if can't, then we'll settle. So far 30 million scanned with about 100 million to go.
